Pacing the lounge carpet as she waited for Lucy, Kathy imagined Luke watching her abuse herself with a wine bottle. Her anger rising, she couldn't believe what she'd done. No wonder I'm so wet and sore, she thought bitterly, slipping her hand up her skirt and feeling her knickers. Planning her confrontation with Lucy, she decided to calm down and try and go along with Luke's idea to say nothing - almost nothing, anyway.

'Why did you two go off and leave me?' Lucy demanded angrily as she stalked into the lounge.

'Luke wanted to talk to me.'

'What about?'

'About... about his... Do you remember anything about going to Tina's place this evening?'

'No, that's the funny thing. It's obviously happened again.

I remember sitting there, drinking wine, and then Luke standing up and saying that he was going to take you home - without me.'

'You're lying.'

'What?'

'Luke wasn't hypnotized. He told me everything - the wine bottle, the whole lot!'

'Wine bottle? What are you talking about?'

'You, between my... I know everything, Lucy!'

'I don't know what rubbish Luke's been telling you, but I don't remember a bloody thing. If it's true and I did... Well, I was hypnotized too.'

Kathy switched the light on and drew the curtains. Perhaps Lucy was hypnotized, she thought as she sat down. But Luke wouldn't lie, would he? No, she decided. Luke was mistaken. He'd wrongly thought that Lucy had been conscious of her actions.

'I'll tell you what I think,' Lucy began as she joined Kathy on the sofa. 'I reckon it's Luke who's on Tina's side. He used us, they used us - that's the only explanation.'

'That makes sense,' Kathy replied pensively, sure now that Lucy was telling the truth. 'But why would he bother to tell me about the things that happened? I mean, if he wants us there again, then why blow it all?'

'Because... he knows that we know about the hypnosis, right? And he realizes that it's only a matter of time before we decide never to go to her house again. So he's trying to cause trouble, to split us up so that he can...'

'Can what? It doesn't make any sense.'

'It does make sense. Listen, he realizes that it can't last forever, that we'll both stay well away from Tina's house before too long, so he's trying to make sure that he has at least one of us to play with.'

'I can't see that myself. Anyway, whatever his plan, he said that he'd see me tomorrow.'

'I'd be careful if I were you - he'll probably hypnotize you himself and... Well, I'm going to bed, I'm tired - bloody exhausted!'
